On October 6, the RAI Conference Hall hosted the open lecture “Driverless Cars, Human Decisions: What Autonomous Vehicles Teach Us About Technology Policy,” delivered by Otto Kokars, who holds an MPhil in Technology Policy from the University of Cambridge. The lecture explored autonomous vehicles not only as a technological innovation, but also as an example of how emerging technologies can be introduced into society safely and responsibly.
Participants discussed safety, responsibility, risk assessment, regulation and public trust, as well as how technological development influences decision-making and public policy. The example of autonomous vehicles also provided a broader perspective, highlighting similar challenges in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital platforms and smart infrastructure. The lecture encouraged participants to think not only about what technology can do, but also about how it can be used responsibly.
